Mongo is the capital of the Guéra province in central Chad. The province is named after the Guéra massif, a group of granite hills and rocky outcrops that rise abruptly from the surrounding plain. On the map, these hills set the scene: the town sits on flatter ground among them, and its roads bend to pass between the rocks.
The town itself has a simple structure. A central area of markets and administrative buildings is surrounded by residential quarters of compounds on loosely arranged blocks.
