Quijingue lies in the north-east of Bahia, in the semi-arid interior known as the sertão. The landscape is caatinga scrub, low hills and riverbeds that fill only in the rainy season. On the map, the town is a small, well-defined cluster of streets in a very open setting.
The street plan is simple and regular. A main square sits at the centre, and blocks extend outward along the roads to neighbouring municipalities.
