La Salud is in Mayabeque province, in the agricultural lowlands south of Havana. From above it has the simple shape of many Cuban country towns: a small grid of streets around a central area, with roads leading out into open farmland. The land is mostly flat, so the edges of the town are clean and easy to trace.
Mayabeque was created from part of the former Havana province, and much of it is still devoted to farming. A La Salud map poster shows that relationship. A small, orderly town sits among fields, and a few roads connect it to neighbouring communities and to the capital to the north.
