Alfafar lies just south of the city of Valencia, part of the ring of towns that has grown up along the roads heading toward L'Albufera. From above, it is a dense block of streets with no clear gap between it and its neighbours, Benetússer, Sedaví and Massanassa. The V-31 motorway and the rail lines to the south run in parallel lines along the side of the town.
The municipality is split in two. The older town sits among the other southern suburbs, while the Barrio Orba district lies to the east, next to large retail parks.
