Ibiza is the third-largest of the Balearic Islands, about forty kilometres long and set at a slant between the southwest and the northeast. Low, wooded hills fill much of the interior, and the coast alternates between cliffs and small coves. The island has two main towns: Ibiza Town on a natural harbour in the southeast, and Sant Antoni on a wide bay in the west.
Above Ibiza Town's harbour, Dalt Vila is enclosed by Renaissance walls built in the sixteenth century, and forms part of a UNESCO site that also protects the island's Posidonia seagrass meadows.
