Baiquan lies in western Heilongjiang, on flat land at the edge of the vast northeastern plains of China. On a map the town is a compact, fairly regular grid of wide streets surrounded by farmland that runs almost to the horizon. The fields are large and rectangular, so even the countryside reads as geometry.
The name Baiquan is usually translated as 'hundred springs', a reference to the water found in the area.
