Calp lies on the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante, and its map is dominated by the Penyal d'Ifac, a huge limestone rock joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. The rock rises sharply from the sea and gives the town a landmark visible from far along the coast. On the map it forms a bold, compact shape reaching into the Mediterranean.
Between the old town and the seafront lies a shallow salt lagoon, Les Salines, a wetland where flamingos are often seen.
