Clovis sits on the northeastern edge of the Fresno metropolitan area, in California's Central Valley. On the map it is organised around a grid of long, straight avenues set roughly a mile apart, with curving suburban streets and cul-de-sacs filling the spaces between them. The city was named after Clovis Cole, a local wheat farmer, and grew up around a railway stop in the late nineteenth century.
