Fenggao lies in the west of Chongqing municipality, in the gently hilly country of the eastern Sichuan Basin, far from the river gorges of central Chongqing. The land here is a continuous run of low rises, small valleys and terraced fields. The town's streets have adapted to this ground instead of flattening it.
From above, newer districts appear as broad, regular blocks laid out where the land allowed. Older lanes bend more freely around the hills.
