Hovden Map Poster & Print
Hovden sits at the northern end of Setesdal in southern Norway, where the long valley rises onto the high mountain plateau. It is a compact place, a village centre with hotels, cabins and a ski area on the slopes above, surrounded by lakes and open fell. From above the settlement is small and the landscape large, with water and terrain filling most of the frame.
The main road through Setesdal runs past the village on its way north, and cabin areas branch off it into the surrounding hillsides. In winter the place is known as much for cross-country skiing as for its lifts, with prepared trails leading out across the plateau. On a Hovden map poster the roads and paths trace thin lines between lakes, giving the sheet a delicate, open pattern.
Hovden is a common destination for families from Kristiansand and elsewhere in southern Norway, many of whom return to the same cabin year after year. Its appeal is space and quiet rather than scale. The map reflects that: a modest village drawn at the edge of a wide, lake-strewn upland that continues far beyond the border of the print.

Lakes on the plateau
Water fills much of the surrounding terrain in irregular shapes. These dark lakes are the boldest elements on the map, set against the lighter land around them.
Cabin clusters
Holiday cabins gather along side roads on the slopes around the village. Seen from above they form small, loose groups of lines and dots spreading outward from the centre.
