Kilosa is a district town in Morogoro Region, in central-eastern Tanzania, set in a valley where the lowlands meet the hills of the interior. On the map, it is a modest, compact town with a loose grid of streets close to the railway, surrounded by fields, scattered homesteads and tracks leading into the countryside.
The town grew around the Central Railway, the line built in the German colonial period that crosses Tanzania from Dar es Salaam towards Lake Tanganyika.
