Omigawa was a town in northern Chiba Prefecture until 2006, when it merged with neighbouring municipalities to form the city of Katori. It is on the south bank of the Tone River, one of Japan's largest rivers, which here forms the boundary with Ibaraki Prefecture. The land is flat and low, and it has been shaped by water.
On a map the area divides into two distinct textures. Near the river, the floodplain is covered by a fine grid of rice paddies, drainage channels and embankments.
