Onda sits in the interior of the province of Castellón, near the valley of the Mijares. The town grew around a hill topped by a Moorish-era castle, sometimes called the castle of the three hundred towers. On a map, the old centre forms a knot of short, winding streets on the slopes below the castle, a clear contrast with the straighter streets of later expansion.
Onda is one of the centres of Spain's ceramic tile industry, and the region around it produces a large share of the country's tiles. That industry is visible from above.
