Planned avenues
Broad boulevards linked by large roundabouts make up modern Rivas, a regular, spacious layout that is easy to recognise from above.

Rivas-Vaciamadrid Map Poster & Print
Rivas-Vaciamadrid lies southeast of Madrid along the A-3 motorway. On a map it has two distinct parts. The original small settlement of Vaciamadrid sits down near the river. Most of the modern town, Rivas, spreads across a plateau in a regular pattern of long avenues, large roundabouts and housing estates, mostly built since the 1980s, when the population grew very quickly.
The municipality lies within the Southeast Regional Park, which protects the lower valleys of the Jarama and Manzanares rivers. Gypsum cliffs, wetlands and former gravel pits turned into lagoons, such as the Laguna del Campillo, lie at the edge of the town.
A Rivas-Vaciamadrid map poster sets the town's orderly grid against the winding river and irregular lagoons below it. The metro line and motorway form straight boundaries along the north. The contrast between planned suburb and river floodplain is clear from above, and it gives the poster more texture than a typical commuter town.

Jarama lagoons
Former gravel workings along the river have become lagoons. Their irregular water shapes sit below the town within the regional park.
A-3 corridor
The motorway to Valencia runs along the northern edge of the town, a strong straight line that separates the built-up area from open land.
