Samothrace Map Poster & Print
Samothrace lies in the northern Aegean, off the coast of Thrace. It is compact and roughly oval, but it is dominated by Mount Fengari, one of the highest peaks in the Aegean islands. From above, the mountain fills most of the island. Its slopes run down on every side to a narrow coastal strip, and the terrain is cut by steep streams, gorges and waterfalls.
The ferry port, Kamariotissa, is on the northwest coast. From there, a road follows the northern shore towards the island's springs and plane-tree woods.
