Solingen lies in the Bergisches Land of North Rhine-Westphalia, between Düsseldorf, Cologne and Wuppertal. Rather than a single centre, the map shows a city formed from several older towns merged in 1929, including Ohligs, Wald, Gräfrath and Höhscheid, spread across ridges and valleys.
