Tiruchirappalli, usually called Trichy, lies on the south bank of the Kaveri River in central Tamil Nadu. Just north of the city the river divides, with the Kollidam branch running parallel to the main channel, and the long island between them holds the temple town of Srirangam. Srirangam's Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the largest functioning Hindu temple complexes in the world.
