Troy is the seat of Miami County in western Ohio, laid out along the Great Miami River north of Dayton. Its downtown follows a tidy grid centred on the Public Square, where the main streets meet around a circular plaza with a fountain. From there the blocks extend in orderly rows, with the county courthouse close by.
The river shapes the northern side of town, curving past downtown in a wide arc followed by a levee, parkland and recreation paths.
