Riverside streets
The town's main streets run parallel to the river, forming a long, narrow built-up area. The water gives the map its central line and its direction.

Mapa
Huguo Map Poster & Print
Huguo lies in southern Sichuan, in the hilly country near the Yangtze, where the Sichuan Basin breaks into ridges and river valleys. From above, the town is built along the water. Its streets stretch along the riverbank and climb short distances up the slopes behind, following the contours rather than any rigid plan.
Around the town, the land is intensely farmed. Terraced fields step up the hillsides, and small roads and villages are scattered across the countryside. On a map, the pattern of river, winding roads and cultivated slopes creates a detailed and lively texture, very different from the flat grids of northern China.
A Huguo map poster captures a type of place common in this region but rarely shown in print: a river town where the water sets the shape of the settlement. The curve of the river, the band of streets along it and the hills beyond make a composition that is both calm and full of detail.

Hill terrain
Behind the riverbank, the land rises into rounded hills. Roads wind up and around them, adding curving lines that soften the composition.
Farmed slopes
Terraced fields and scattered villages cover the surrounding hills. They fill the open areas of the poster with fine, irregular detail.
