Mapa
Nā’īn lies on the high, dry plateau of central Iran, northeast of Isfahan, on routes that have crossed the desert for centuries. Its old quarter shows up on a map as a tight, irregular web of narrow lanes and courtyard houses, a pattern suited to shade and shelter from heat and wind, surrounded by newer, straighter streets.
Two landmarks anchor the old town. The Jameh Mosque of Nā’īn is one of the oldest congregational mosques in Iran, known for its early stucco decoration. Nearby rises the Narin Qal'eh, a fortress of mud brick whose origins reach back before the Islamic period.
The town is also famous far beyond its size for Nain carpets, finely knotted rugs in soft palettes. A Nā’īn map poster places these traces of a long past within a simple frame of streets and open desert.
The historic centre forms a dense, irregular pattern of lanes and enclosed courtyards, visibly different from the orderly streets of the newer districts around it.
The ancient mud-brick fortress stands on a rise above the old town, its compact footprint marking the oldest layer of settlement in Nā’īn.
Beyond the town, open arid land stretches in every direction, leaving wide blank space on the poster that emphasises how compact the settlement is.
