Águas Claras is an administrative region of Brazil's Federal District, southwest of Brasília's Plano Piloto. Where Lúcio Costa's capital is low and spread out, Águas Claras is built vertically. From above, it forms a tight rectangle of high-rise blocks set along a metro line, with closely packed streets inside and open land around the edges.
The street plan is compact and regular, with avenues running parallel to the rail corridor and short cross streets linking them. The metro stations sit at regular intervals like beads on a line. A large ecological park adds a long green strip that stands out clearly from the densely built blocks, and cerrado vegetation and neighbouring districts surround the rest.
