Akaike lies in the Chikuho area of Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyushu, a region shaped for generations by coal mining. Administratively it has been merged into the town of Fukuchi, but the name still marks a distinct cluster on the map. From above, it is a place of small scales: narrow roads, compact housing and field patterns squeezed into valley floors between forested slopes.
The street network follows the terrain rather than a plan. Roads trace streams and the edges of hills, bending and branching where the land allows, while rice paddies form small rectangular tiles between built-up patches. An Akaike map poster captures that mix of dense housing, cultivated land and green hillsides, a pattern typical of inland Kyushu yet particular in its details.
The Chikuho region's industrial past has left a landscape that has since grown quieter and greener.
