Amlai is a town in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh, on the plateau country of the upper Son basin. From above, it is not a single dense centre but a set of distinct areas: an industrial complex, residential colonies with regular streets, and older settlements along the roads, all set against wooded hills and open farmland.
The town is known for its paper mill, one of the long-established paper-making sites in central India, and for a thermal power station nearby.
