Atakpamé is the capital of the Plateaux Region in central Togo, located in hilly country north of Lomé. The town is built across several rises, and its map shows streets curving along ridgelines and dipping into valleys, rather than following a strict grid.
This terrain gives Atakpamé a layered structure. Denser neighbourhoods occupy the slopes near the centre, while roads leading out of town climb and bend through surrounding greenery. Main routes connect it to Lomé in the south and to towns in the north, making it a regional crossroads.
