Azhoor lies in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, a short distance from the Arabian Sea coast. Like much of coastal Kerala, it is not a compact town but a spread of homes, lanes and small centres set among coconut palms and gardens, so the map shows a fine, meandering network rather than a clear grid.
Water is close at hand in every direction. The coast lies just to the west, and the backwaters and lagoons that run parallel to the shore in this part of Kerala bring inland channels and still water into the landscape. Paddy fields and low-lying wetlands fill the gaps between settled areas.
