Beni Mered lies in the Mitidja, the wide fertile plain south of Algiers, immediately north of the city of Blida. From above, the town has a compact centre with streets arranged in regular blocks, and the land around it is divided into fields and orchards. To the south, the Blidean Atlas rises steeply above the plain.
The Mitidja has long been one of Algeria's most important farming regions, known in particular for citrus orchards. Beni Mered sits within this landscape, connected by road to Blida and to towns further across the plain. Its growth is closely linked to the expansion of Blida itself.
