Bequimão is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Maranhão, on the mainland west of São Luís bay. It belongs to the low, watery country of the Baixada Maranhense and the northern coast. The town itself is small, a few blocks of streets on firmer ground, with water and wetland taking up much of the map around it.
That surrounding water is the main subject of the poster. Tidal creeks wind towards the coast, mangrove margins blur the edge between land and sea, and seasonal flood plains open up broad flat areas. The roads are few and direct, running along the higher ground to link the town with its neighbours.
