Bristol, Tennessee, shares its downtown with Bristol, Virginia. The state line runs down the middle of State Street, so one side of the street is in Tennessee and the other in Virginia. On the map, the city's grid of streets fits into the valleys and ridges of the southern Appalachian foothills, spreading outward from this shared centre.
