Butemba is a town in Uganda's Central Region, in the farming country north-west of Kampala. It is a small place, and its map is shaped less by dense streets than by the roads passing through it and the open land between settlements. Fields, patches of woodland and homesteads are spread widely across gently rolling ground.
As in many small Ugandan towns, the trading area gathers along the main road, with shops and houses set close to the verges.
