Cahul Map Poster & Print
Cahul is the main town of southern Moldova, set on rising ground above the Prut River, which forms the border with Romania. From above, the centre shows a fairly regular grid of blocks, while newer housing estates and private districts spread along the slopes. To the west the land drops toward the floodplain, and the character of the map changes completely.
The Prut floodplain here holds lakes, reed beds and channels, including Lake Manta just south of town, part of a protected wetland area. The name is shared with the 1770 battle of Kagul, fought in the region during a Russo-Turkish war. Today Cahul is also a university town and a regional centre for the wine-growing south.

The lake and the wetlands around it lie just south of Cahul, adding broad open shapes of water to the lower part of the composition.
