Cartaya Map Poster & Print
Cartaya lies in the province of Huelva, in the southwest corner of Andalusia, near the border with Portugal. The town itself is compact, with whitewashed streets around a central square and church, on slightly higher ground above the Piedras river. From there, the map opens towards the south, where the river widens into an estuary on its way to the Atlantic.
The Piedras estuary ends behind a long sand spit, the Flecha de El Rompido, and the coastal settlements of El Rompido and Nuevo Portil belong to the municipality. Inland, the land is covered by farms. The area is a major producer of strawberries and other berries, and the fields show on the map as large regular plots, often under greenhouses.
A Cartaya map poster brings together an inland town, a winding river and an Atlantic coast in one frame. The compact town at the top contrasts with the long, soft lines of the estuary and the sandbar below. It is a landscape of transitions, from town to marsh to sea, and it translates very well into black and white.

El Rompido sand spit
A long, narrow sandbar runs along the coast in front of the estuary. It is one of the most distinctive features of the Huelva shore.
Town above the river
The whitewashed centre forms a compact grid of streets around a square, set just above the river valley.
