Ceadîr-Lunga is the second-largest town in Gagauzia, the autonomous region in southern Moldova. From above, it spreads widely across gently rolling steppe country. Long, straight streets are lined with low houses and deep garden plots, a layout common to farming towns in the Bugeac region. Beyond it, vineyards and fields stretch towards the horizon.
The town takes part of its name from the small Lunga river, whose shallow valley runs through the area.
