Chalkidóna sits on the broad alluvial plain of Central Macedonia, west of Thessaloniki, where the rivers descending toward the Thermaic Gulf spread out into level farmland. From above, geometry dominates. Rectangular plots, long straight roads and drainage channels divide the land into regular strips, and the town appears as a denser knot where several of these lines meet.
