Chek Chue is the Chinese name for Stanley, on the south side of Hong Kong Island. It sits on a narrow peninsula between Stanley Bay and Tai Tam Bay, so from above it is defined by water on two sides. The town's streets gather on the neck of land, and the southern tip stretches out toward the open sea.
Stanley is known for its market, a warren of small lanes that has drawn visitors for decades, and for its waterfront. There, Murray House, a colonial-era building moved stone by stone from Central, stands beside the rebuilt Blake Pier. Stanley Main Beach curves along the eastern shore.
