Ciudad General Escobedo sits directly north of Monterrey, part of the same metropolitan area. On a map it reads as a broad, low sprawl: residential blocks in tight rectangular patterns, long arterial roads running toward the city core, and large pale footprints where factories and warehouses have been built. The municipality is named after Mariano Escobedo, the nineteenth-century general from Nuevo León who is remembered for the siege of Querétaro in 1867.
