Colbún is a commune in the Maule Region of central Chile, extending from the flat agricultural land of the Central Valley eastwards into the foothills of the Andes. Its town is modest in size, with a regular block layout surrounded by vineyards, orchards and fields irrigated by canals drawn from nearby rivers.
The commune gives its name to Lake Colbún, a large reservoir created on the Maule River for a hydroelectric power plant completed in the 1980s. On the map the lake forms a long, irregular body of water in the foothills, and it has become a popular place for summer recreation for people from across the region.
