Cuenca is a municipality in Batangas province, in the Calabarzon region south of Manila. It lies at the base of Mount Maculot, a mountain known for its hiking trail and for the views over Taal Lake from its rocky summit. The town's position between mountain and lake shapes everything on the map.
The town centre is compact, gathered around the church and plaza in the pattern common to Philippine towns of Spanish-era origin. Roads run out from it to barangays on the lower slopes.
