Dachang is a town within Baoshan District, on the northwestern side of Shanghai. Like much of the city, it lies on the flat ground of the Yangtze delta, and from above it is a dense, busy mix of residential compounds, industrial plots, arterial roads and the small creeks and channels that once drained the delta farmland.
Over recent decades the area has been absorbed into the wider metropolis, with high-rise estates and new roads laid over a landscape that was once rural.
