Dade lies in the northeastern part of Chongqing, a region of folded hills and deep valleys in the wider Three Gorges area. From above, the town is shaped by terrain rather than plan: streets follow valley floors and contours, and buildings cluster wherever flatter ground allows.
The countryside around is steep and heavily cultivated, with terraces and small villages scattered across the slopes. Roads wind considerably to connect settlements, and waterways run through the valleys. Dade itself forms a denser node among these threads of road and stream.
