Dadu lies in the lower Indus valley on the western side of the river, in country that is almost completely flat. From above, the town is a compact knot of streets, surrounded by a pattern of fields and irrigation channels that stretches out in every direction.
As the headquarters of Dadu District, the town is a market and administrative centre for the surrounding farmland. Roads and a railway pass through it, linking it to other towns along the river. Beyond the town, the canals and their branches draw long, thin lines across the plain.
