Valley floor town
The streets form a compact grid on the flat ground beside the river. The simple layout contrasts sharply with the steep, empty terrain around it.

Daocheng Map Poster & Print
Daocheng is a county town high on the Tibetan Plateau in western China, at an altitude of well over three thousand metres. The map shows a small, orderly settlement in an open valley. A river runs through the valley floor, and the surrounding ridges are crossed only by a few winding roads.
For most visitors, Daocheng is the gateway to the Yading nature reserve to the south, where snow-capped peaks and glacial lakes draw trekkers and pilgrims. The county's airport is one of the highest in the world, set on a plateau above the town. On the map, a single road threads south towards the mountains.
A Daocheng map poster leaves plenty of open space. The streets take up only a small part of the frame, and the rest is valley and slope. That emptiness is part of its character, and it gives a black and white print the feeling of altitude and distance.

Road to Yading
A mountain road leaves town heading south towards the Yading reserve. It winds through valleys and passes, and on the map it looks like a single loose thread.
River through the valley
A river runs along the valley bottom beside the town. It traces the lowest line through the landscape and gives the map its main natural curve.
