Deder is a town in the East Hararghe Zone of Oromia, in the highlands of eastern Ethiopia. It serves as a local centre for the surrounding district, where farming shapes the landscape. From above, the town is a loose cluster of streets and compounds set among hills, with footpaths and rural roads branching out toward villages on the slopes.
The street pattern is irregular and follows the ground. A main road crosses the town and gathers the busiest part of the settlement along it, while smaller lanes wind between plots and fields.
