Depālpur is a town in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, west of Indore on the Malwa plateau. Seen from above, it has the shape of many long-established market towns in central India. A tightly packed core of narrow lanes and closely built houses sits at the centre, and a few roads run outward through farmland toward neighbouring villages.
The plateau here is broad and gently rolling, with deep black soils well suited to soybean, wheat and other crops. Field boundaries, small ponds and seasonal streams give the surroundings a fine texture on a map, in contrast with the dense grain of the town.
