Dias d'Ávila lies inland in the metropolitan region of Salvador, northwest of the coast and close to the industrial area of Camaçari. The map shows a town of irregular streets spread across gently rolling land, with neighbourhoods separated by strips of vegetation, streams and low ground.
The town is known for its mineral springs, and its waters have long attracted visitors from Salvador; rivers and streams run through and around the settlement.
