Doka lies in Gedaref state in eastern Sudan, not far from the border with Ethiopia. From above, it forms a compact grouping of streets and compounds on a broad, open plain. Roads run out across the flat land toward neighbouring towns and villages, and the built-up area gives way quickly to fields and open country.
