Farkhor is a town in Khatlon Province in the far south of Tajikistan, close to the Panj River, which forms the border with Afghanistan. The surrounding district is a low, warm plain given over largely to irrigated farming. The town is its administrative and market centre, serving the villages spread across the fields around it.
On the map, Farkhor has a simple, legible structure. A central grid of streets gives way to wider plots with houses and gardens, and main roads run out toward neighbouring districts and the river.
