Farum lies north of Copenhagen in Furesø Municipality. The town is set on the northern shore of Farum Lake, and on the map the water forms a large pale shape at its edge, surrounded by woods and open fields that give the area its green, spacious character.
Farum grew rapidly from the 1960s onwards, and its plan reflects that: a centre around the station and shopping streets, neighbourhoods of detached houses on curving roads, and larger housing estates. The best known is Farum Midtpunkt, a large terraced complex that stands out clearly from above.
