Guandu lies in the far east of Chongqing Municipality, in the mountains of the Three Gorges region near the border with Hubei. The terrain here is steep and deeply folded. On the map, the town appears as a small, compact settlement, with streets arranged wherever the slopes and valleys allow.
Roads follow the contours of the land, bending around ridges and running along valley floors. The surrounding countryside is made up of terraced slopes, woodland and small hamlets connected by winding routes.
