Hillerød Map Poster & Print
Hillerød is a town in North Zealand, northwest of Copenhagen. Its defining feature on the map is Slotssøen, the castle lake, where Frederiksborg Castle occupies three small islands linked by bridges. The castle was built in the early seventeenth century for King Christian IV in the Dutch Renaissance style, and today it houses the Museum of National History.
North of the castle, the formal Baroque garden forms a precise geometric pattern of terraces and paths, one of the most recognisable shapes in the whole print. The town centre lies south of the lake, with a compact pedestrian core and later neighbourhoods and ring roads spreading outward. Forests close in around the edges of the frame.
