Houzhen is in Shouguang, a county-level city of Weifang in Shandong Province, on the low plain that runs down to the southern shore of Laizhou Bay. The land is almost perfectly flat, so the map is defined by man-made geometry: straight roads, rectangular blocks and field boundaries set out across open land.
The northern part of Shouguang is known for salt production and related chemical industry. Toward the coast, the landscape shifts from farmland to evaporation ponds and industrial sites. Shouguang as a whole is widely known for vegetable growing, and greenhouse rows are common across the wider area. Houzhen's own streets form a compact grid within this larger pattern.
